The excuse of delay is like a sour lemon. It looks pretty and tasty, but the taste of delay is actually sour. How many times have you found yourself deep in the excuse of delay? Delay sounds like..."I'll start Monday." "When I'm not so busy, I'll have time to cook healthy and workout." "I'll really make a change once the kids get bigger." "After the holidays, I'll focus on improving my eating habits."
Waiting for the "perfect" opportunity = DELAY. What if you stopped delaying and started doing? We have a few strategies to help you change your mindset from delaying to taking action.
Happy Memorial Day weekend! I love Memorial Day...it's a special time to remember those that have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. It's a time to honor those that are putting their boots on the ground each day. It's a time to say THANK YOU to the men, women, and families that are serving our great country. Thank you, thank you, thank you for your service.
Memorial Day is also the start of SUMMER! I love summer. Yes, it's hot. Sure, it's incredibly humid. However, it's beach season. It's longer days. It's staying up late because we don't have to get ready for school. In our home, Memorial Day is about family, friends, the grill, delicious food, and a few trips to the beach. Check out what we have on the menu this weekend....
So, if you are at all involved in the health and wellness scene, you have heard the keto buzz lately. It's been all the rage, especially for people looking for "quick" weight loss. I even overhead a family beside us at lunch today that didn't seem to have much knowledge about keto discuss going "key-toe." Despite the hype currently surrounding it, keto has been around since the hunter gatherer age. It's not new or really even very complicated. In fact, if you would have been walking around hundreds and hundreds of years ago, you would have likely been living in a ketogenic state.
As with any other style or method of eating, keto must be approached with the right mindset. At Fixed on Fitness, we don't believe in "quick fixes" or "fad diets." We don't promote specific, strict meal plans. For the last 10+ years, Josh and I have used ourselves as an experiment. We want to look at the latest research, try it on ourselves, and then share our experience. We have been living a Primal lifestyle, eating real, nutrient dense foods, and living without grains and processed foods for the last eight years. Six weeks ago, we decided to give the ketogenic style of eating a try. Check out our experience, what we learned, benefits we noticed, some tips we discovered along the way, and what are plans are going forward.
Do you remember field day? It was almost always my favorite day of school. Races, obstacle courses, challenges, team work, and fun meant for an awesome day. Well...it's been about 25 years since I have competed in a three legged race. Last Saturday, a group of nearly 30 people from the FOF Pace camp got together to compete in our third annual FOF Pace Survivor event. It was full of laughs, competition, and tons of fun. We had three teams, and we all set out to win this year's medal. Hey...we might be slightly competitive, but we sure are a lot of fun.
The 2018 Mt. Cheaha 50K was HOT! In fact, this year's race was the hottest on record. Despite the heat this year, I absolutely LOVE this race. First, if you have never been to Mt. Cheaha, and you live anywhere in the southeast, you should put it on your list of weekend destinations. If you run trails, and you want a challenging and extremely well run race, sign up for the Mt. Cheaha 50K. Read on for my race report for 2018...the hottest year ever :).
If you live in or around Pensacola, the Double Bridge 15K should be on your list of races to run. This happens to be my favorite (and actually one of the only) road races that I do each year. The scenery is beautiful, the crowd is awesome, and the post race party is on point.
Each year, Fixed on Fitness has a great group train for and run this race together. Over the years, we have had so many people that thought a 15K was never possible, not only complete the distance, but cross the finish line with a smile. We don't love to pound pavement, so we have created a plan for our clients that incorporates FOF boot camp workouts along with just 1-2 runs during the week. This plan has worked well for years, and this year was no different.
Start a business...we thought. It can't be that hard...we thought. It's been 10 years of trial and error. We've laughed, and we've cried. We've succeeded, and we've failed. Despite the sweat and the tears, we wouldn't change a thing. It's been a ride for sure. Here is a little of our story and a few things we have learned along this adventure of business ownership.
So, we think that 10 years in business is a pretty big deal. As we were thinking and reflecting on how we wanted to celebrate, the idea of a 10K prediction run was thrown out there. See, we didn't want a typical anniversary celebration. You know, the kind with tons of food and way too many adult beverages. We are here running a fitness business and promoting healthy eating here, so a binge eating and drinking celebration was off the table.
We went with the theme, 10 Years Strong, 10 Years Tough. The course was mapped, times were predicted, and we all showed up at Bayview Park on Saturday, January 6th to celebrate 10 Years of FOF.
